Dreams During Pregnancy

Preganancy is the most enlightening experience in a woman's life. Her own body certainly changed enormously during her childhood and adolescence, but to meet such enormous physical, personal and social changes as an adult is a huge challenge.

A woman's dreams at such a time not only show some of the detailed events that are occurring physically, but also comment on psychological and relationship events and subtleties too.

Causes for Dreams during pregnancy

Your dreams may reflect fears or concerns that you are not even aware of on a conscious level, but that may be worrying you on a subconcious level. The vividness of pregnancy dreams is primarily caused by changing hormone levels.

The contents or subjects of your dreams, especially nightmares, often reflect either specific or general fears and anxiety regarding the welfare of your baby, your own well-being, and/or your concerns about the pregnancy, the birth experience, and/or your ability to be a parent. The true significance of your dreams is based far more on your emotional responses in your dreams than on the subject matter of your dreams.

The positive dreams of a mother in which she has a sense of knowing her baby's character, can reach far beyond the birth of the baby. They inform the mother long into the life of the child, aiding how the mother responds to problems arising in the long years of rearing. Above all, remember that having vivid dreams and nightmares is very, very common during pregnancy and that even if you have terrifyingly awful dreams, this doesn't mean that there's something wrong with you, physically or mentally!
